Born Julie Fiona Roberts in Smyrna, Georgia, on October 28, 1967, the actress emerged as everyone's favourite pretty woman aged 21. With two Oscar nominations to her name (a supporting nod for the 1989 tearjerker Steel Magnolias and a leading lady bid for Pretty Woman), she was forced to mature in public under the Hollywood spotlight. High profile engagements to actors Dylan McDermott and Kiefer Sutherland became tabloid fodder, and her reported antics on the set of Steven Spielberg's Hook earned her the moniker "Tinkerhell".

She pulled a Greta Garbo-esque disappearing act in 1991 surfacing briefly as herself in Robert Altman's 1992 film The Player - and emerged focused and triumphant with the 1993 blockbuster The Pelican Brief. But despite well-reviewed performances in Michael Collins, alongside one-time boyfriend Liam Neeson, and Something To Talk About, it was 1997's quirky My Best Friend's Wedding that reminded audiences why they first fell in love with the Georgia Peach. Then, in 2000, came the ultimate accolade, a Best Actress statuette for her portrayal of unstoppable legal secretary Erin Brockovich in the eponymously titled flick.

Julia grew up around actors. Her father Walter (who died of cancer when the actress was ten) and mother Betty, both professional local actors, divorced when Julia was three, and though she lived with her mother and three siblings, she remained close to her father. The Notting Hill star has a well-publicised, long-running feud with her older brother, Academy Award-nominee Eric Roberts (Runaway Train).

Since coming to audiences' attention in 1988's Mystic Pizza, Julia has become something of a runaway bride. In 1993, following her failed engagements, Julia shocked the world by marrying lanky country singer Lyle Lovett. The unlikely pair divorced in June of 1995. Friends' Matthew Perry, Daniel Day-Lewis and fitness trainer Pat Manocchia also feature in the ranks of Julia's former lovers.

Born in LA on September 28, 1972, to actress Blythe Danner and the late TV producer Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth was just five when she first trod the boards alongside her mother in a production in Massachusetts. At the beginning of the Nineties she started to bag small movie roles and, bitten by the acting bug, gave up her Art History studies at the University of California to devote herself to her mother's profession. One of her first roles was in Steven Spielberg's Hook, where she played the part of Wendy to Robin Williams' Peter Pan.

The first role that really made the world aware of her existence was the 1995 thriller Se7en more importantly for Gwyneth, it brought her to the attention of Brad Pitt. Cast as the actor's young wife she fell in love on the set. After a two-year romance Brad popped the question, but by 1997 the couple had split, reportedly because the Joe Black actor found his intended too emotionally needy, an accusation her next boyfriend, Ben Affleck, was also to level at her.

After meeting at the tail end of '97, the couple were together for about a year and ended up starring together in Shakespeare In Love and later Bounce.

In the end, however, it was to be an Englishman who captured the self-confessed anglophile's heart. Gwyneth fell for Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and the pair wed in December 2003. Their daughter, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, arrived on May 14, 2004. Baby boy Moses followed in April 2006.

Suddenly, Matt was 'It'. But with all his success why does the golden boy sometimes seem decidedly less than upbeat?

Matthew Paige Damon was born on October 8, 1970, in suburban Massachusetts to Nancy Paige, an author and educator, and Kent Damon, an investment banker. His parents split when he was two years old, and his mum raised him and his brother in an area of Cambridge similar to that portrayed in Good Will Hunting.

Matt dropped out of Harvard University just shy of graduation after scoring a pivotal role in Geronimo: An American Legend and relocating to Los Angeles. The success he found in Hollywood, however, did not extend to his love life. Acting has always been in the Bardem family's blood. Born on the Canary Islands March 1, 1969, Javier was raised the youngest of three children in Madrid by his mother, Pilar who separated from his father Carlos when he was a baby. Pilar was one of the most talented actresses of her generation, while his grandparents were also actors. His uncle, Juan Antonio Bardem, was a director.

At first Javier resisted following in the family footsteps, despite appearing in the film El Picaro (The Scoundrel) at the age of six and acting in several TV series as a youngster. Before he took up acting seriously like brother Carlos and sister Monica, he trained as an artist. A talented sportsman, he also became a member of the Spanish national rugby team. It was not rugby, which he played from the age of nine until 24, which resulted in his Roman profile, however his nose was broken in a nightclub attack by a stranger who asked for his name and then punched him.

He took odd jobs to pay for art college - including one day working as a stripper and a stint as an extra on film sets. Javier cemented his credentials with 2005's Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside), playing a quadriplegic man who challenged the Spanish legal system for the right to die. The movie won the Academy Award for best foreign film, sparked a debate about euthanasia in Spain, and earned him the best actor gong at the Venice Film Festival.

Despite his physically imposing 6ft 3in frame, Javier has a reputation as a gentle giant. His dislike for violence led him to think twice about accepting the role of a psychopathic killer in the bloody Western No Country For Old Men (2007) alongside Tommy Lee Jones. Having accepted the part he stole the film as chilling killer Anton Chigurh and in 2008 was named best supporting actor at the 80th Academy Awards, making history as the first Spanish actor to take home one of the coveted trophies.

Two weeks after wrapping filming on the film, the versatile star began lensing Mike Newell's adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel Love In The Time Of Cholera, playing the polar opposite to Chigurgh as Columbian lover Florentino Ariza. He also signed up for the lead in Woody Allen's 2008 flick Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in which he teamed up again with Penelope Cruz - whom he began dating at the end of 2007.

Two and a half years later, the couple made their union official by tying the knot in a secret ceremony in the Bahamas, with just a handful of friends and family present. Two months later they announced that they were expecting their first child together, due in early 2011.

Despite his success in Hollywood, for now Javier has no plans to leave his Madrid hometown, where he owns a pair of restaurants. His work, however, is likely to keep him in Tinseltown for many years to come. Neither the silver screen nor his legions of fans can get enough of him it seems. As director Joel Coen said when asked why he chose the actor for No Country For Old Men, "Javier is somebody you can't take your eyes off".

But this week the British actress was not shy in showing how smitten she is with her new man Louis Dowler.

Stepping into the spotlight together at the San Sebastian Film Festival, the couple couldn’t keep their hands off each other as they attended the first red carpet event of their relationship.

Kate, 34, sizzled in a super-sexy LBD-and-heels-combination and with a mega-watt smile as she went public with model Louis, spending much of the night gazing into his eyes.

The pair stuck close throughout the evening as they mingled with Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem, who are also at the festival.

Kate and Louis – who has starred in high-profile campaigns for Burberry and Paul Smith – confirmed their romance back in August when they were seen hand-in-hand during a night out in London.

They were first linked earlier that same month when pictures emerged of the pair exercising together in the Big Apple.

According to friends, they have become inseparable – to the extent that Kate is loathe to leave Louis, also 34, behind when she heads to Chicago to film her new movie Contagion.

"Kate hates the idea of having a long-distance relationship, even for a short period of time," a source close to the actress has revealed.

"They have discussed the idea of Louis going with her while she films so they won't have to endure a long-distance relationship at such an early stage in what seems to be something pretty serious.

"Kate hasn’t been this happy in a very long time."

While in the Windy City filming the medical thriller – also starring Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law – the Oscar winner will arrange care of her two children with ex-husband Sam Mendes, who lives in New York.

They announced their separation after seven years of marriage in March this year. Kate and Sam are parents to son Joe Alfie, six, and the star also has a daughter Mia, who will be ten next month, with her first husband Jim Threapleton.

Paris Hilton refused entry to Japan and sent home

Paris Hilton's recent drug charges have had far-reaching consequences.

Having pleaded guilty to cocaine possession and obstructing an officer on Monday, the 29-year-old has been refused entry to Japan.

Paris had flown there on a business trip with her sister following her court appearance.

Upon landing at Tokyo's Narita airport, she was questioned for six hours by Japanese immigration officials, and asked to stay overnight in a nearby hotel, while it was decided how to handle her case.

Under Japanese law, immigration authorities have the power to deny entry to visitors who have been convicted of drug-related offences.

Paris had been scheduled to appear in a news conference on Wednesday to promote her fashion and fragrance lines.

Having previously posted a photograph of herself and younger sister Nicky arriving in Tokyo (left), Paris later wrote on her Twitter page: "About to take off. Going home now.

"So disappointed to miss my fans in Asia. I promise to come back soon. I love you all! Love Paris xoxo"

But there's one thing Chris Brown says he most certainly is not: forgetful.In a detailed statement to PEOPLE, the singer clarifies what he calls incorrect reports – based on a clip of an interview with Larry King airing Wednesday night – about the events with Rihanna that led to his arrest:

"There have been reports on the Internet that I didn't remember what happened that night with Rihanna. I want to try and set things straight."

That 30 seconds of the interview they used of me was taken from a one hour interview during which that same question was asked something like four or five times – and when you look at the entire interview you will see it is not representative of what I said. "

The first four times – or however many times it was – I gave the same answer – which was that I didn't think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn't fair to Rihanna.

The fifth time – or whatever it was – I just misspoke. I was asked, 'Do you remember doing it?' and I said, 'No.' "Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur. And yes, I still can't believe it happened because it is not me or who I am, nor is what happened like anything I have ever done before. "

As I have said several times previously, I am ashamed of and sorry for what happened that night and I wish I could relive that moment and change things, but I can't. I take full responsibility for my actions. What I have to do now is to prove to the world that this was an isolated incident and that is not who I am, and I intend to do so by my behavior now and in the future."

Court-Ordered Counseling

Right after the incident, Brown tells PEOPLE, he was "distraught" and immediately "went to my mom on the same night and told [her] what happened and broke down." With the sentencing behind him, Brown is eager to start the court-ordered counseling sessions. "I want to find out what really transpired as far as me that night. I just want to talk to [the counselor], someone who has dealt with this and has an expertise because I think it would be helpful for me to learn how to channel [the anger] and understand my feelings."

Brown says he'd never claim to have forgotten the assault or spend time defending his behavior: "I feel like there's no need to make any excuses. At all."

In one of her first interviews since announcing her departure from American Idol, Paula Abdul reveals why she left her post on the judges’ panel — and wasn’t just about money.
“I had to stand on my principle,” Abdul, 47, tells TV Guide. “I’m going to miss the experience of watching young talent evolve into a place where they get to take off and soar.”
The former Idol judge, who calls the show an “amazing experience,” says her decision wasn’t solely about a paycheck dispute. “I stand on principle where many people stand on money,” she says. “I’m a hard-working artist. I’ve lasted in this business for 23 years. And you can’t do that unless you are good at what you do.”
That success seems to have given Abdul a confidence that will last in her post-Idol career. “I believe in myself and you have to have your own self respect,” Abdul says. “And sometimes decisions are very difficult to make, but I’ve always believed that at the core I’m a survivor. There’s not one thing I’ve done that I’ve really set my mind to that I’ve failed at.”
So what’s next? “I definitely want to do a talk show because it would be different,” she says. “It would be a lot of fun variety with a ton of unexpected stuff and tributes to everyday people getting their big chance.”
Abdul, who’s been busy shooting a guest role on Lifetime’s comedy Drop Dead Diva, says just because she’s no longer sitting beside Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson doesn’t mean she will not tune in to TV’s top talent search. “I had some really unforgettable moments that hit plateaus for me and I’m very blessed to have been a part of what made television history,” she says.
And finally, Abdul expressed gratitude to her fans. “The fans all should know I adore, love, appreciate and respect how much they’ve expressed their outpouring of love and support for me,” Abdul says. “That’s what keeps me going in lots of ways.”

According to Robert Pattinson, there's not much to love about his Twilight saga character,

Edward Cullen. In fact, the heartthrob thinks the vamp is more like a serial killer than a dreamboat.

"With virtually anyone, the nice guys always seem to finish last," he told British OK! "You always get weirdos like Edward who seem to attract women for some reason. If Edward wasn't a fictional character and you met him in reality, he is like one of those guys who would probably be an axe murderer or something."

Yikes. Team Jacob is starting to sound better by the minute.
"People just project their idea of my character on to me and they just seem to assume that I'm the same, when, in reality, I'm not," he said.

Jessica and Tony's Relationship: What Went Wrong?

Two weeks ago, when PEOPLE asked Tony Romo what he had planned for girlfriend Jessica Simpson's birthday, he said, "It's a secret." As it turned out, Simpson's birthday surprise turned out to be a shocker: Although Romo had insisted that things between them were "going good," the Dallas Cowboys quarterback ended their year-and-a-half relationship on July 9 – the night before the singer turned 29. "She is heartbroken," says a source. "She loves Tony. But it's been difficult lately. He's busy with his career and she's getting ready to shoot her show (The Price of Beauty). They decided to part ways." But nobody would say that the pair didn't give their relationship a good shot – weathering many a storm and breakup rumors before.

Early Romance

After Simpson and her family went to see Romo play for the first time in November 2007, things moved pretty quickly – he even kissed her on their first date! "The fact that this guy, on our first date, in the first 10 minutes of dinner, wanted to lean over the table and say, 'This is my girl and I want to kiss her' – our first kiss in front of everybody – was awesome," Simpson said at the time. Days later, they shared Thanksgiving together in Texas – but their first bump in the road came quickly. In December, after Romo played his worst game ever while his new girlfriend looked on from the stands, some fans blamed Simpson for distracting Romo and causing the team to lose. Still, the couple rebounded with a Mexican getaway, a romantic Valentine's Day dinner and a public PDA session on his birthday (complete with a frosting fight) in April.

By May, rumors began to swirl that the couple was heading for a split and that Simpson was devastated to learn her ex-boyfriend, John Mayer, had started dating Jennifer Aniston. But her rep denied talk of a breakup, and Romo escorted Simpson to her sister Ashlee's wedding that same month. The summer seemed blissful for the couple: Simpson went home with her man to Wisconsin where they had dinner with his parents. Later, she dedicated her song, "You're My Sunday," to Romo during a concert tour for her country album and even gushed to PEOPLE that he was "the love of my life." In recent weeks, however, the couple have been spending time apart. A source tells PEOPLE: "They've been having a lot of problems lately in general." Their last public appearance together was July 1 when she sang the National Anthem at the National Golf Tournament in Bethesda, Md., and Romo played a practice round with Tiger Woods. On July 2, Simpson still seemed upbeat and excited for her upcoming birthday. She posted a message on Twitter to her friend Emmy Rossum about her upcoming party: "Can't wait to see your costume on the 10th! Birthday evite coming soon. You are always the best dressed!!!" But just nine days later, Simpson ended up celebrating her birthday quietly "with family and close friends," according to a source close to Simpson. Meanwhile, Romo was spotted out with a group of friends at L.A. hotspot MyHouse. According to a source, Romo was out with the guys to "lift his spirits." Adds the source: "His friends wanted him to have some fun before football training camp starts." On Sunday, Simpson again took to Twitter to write this reflective post: "Everyone needs to know that hope floats ... grab the strings and pull it back to you. Falling asleep with my mom and the dogs. Please lord give all of my beautiful fans, friends, enemies, and family rest. Bring all of us peace." Says the source close to Simpson: "[Jessica and Tony] were good together for along time. Before the memorial began on Tuesday, Los Angeles police officers checked the stage of the Staples Center, which was the same venue where Jackson rehearsed for his London concert tour just two days before he died on June 25. After the short, 30-minute service, Jackson's casket -- covered in a giant arrangement of red roses -- was loaded into the hearse at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and made its way to the Staples Center, which was 10 miles away.

Fans gathered outside L.A.'s Staples Center the day of Jackson's public memorial. More than 1.6 million people registered online for a chance to attend the ceremony, and only 8,750 names were chosen. Those with a ticket were given a free 14-page souvenir program with personalized notes from family and loved ones as they entered. Fans who brought gifts were asked to leave their offerings at a special table inside.

Outside the Staples Center, fans paid tribute to the late King of Pop, including an impersonator who posed in Jackson's '80s era, classic white glove. Many fans danced to Jackson's biggest hits and showed off some of his signature moves, including his moonwalk and the infamous crotch-grabbing routine.

The massive financial rip-off masterminded by Bernard Madoff, an extended crime spree that harmed thousands, is proof enough that public enemies still walk among us. But Madoff the man is as dull a figure as his crimes are vivid. Not so John Dillinger, the brazen Depression-era bank robber. His fabled career busting into Midwestern banks and out of jails was brief — he was 31 years old when he was shot to death by FBI agents led by steely G-man Melvin Purvis in Chicago in 1934. But during Dillinger's reign, the outlaw designated by FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover as Public Enemy Number One played his part with aplomb, happy to fill the bill as a tommy-gun-toting folk hero for a public who saw him as a defiant celebrity suitable for down-and-out times. As filmmaker Michael Mann takes pains to emphasize in his handsome, underheated gangster drama Public Enemies, the gent may have been murderous, but he had style.

In case there's any doubt, the gangster-in-chief is played by Johnny Depp, one of the most effortlessly elegant, intriguingly self-contained American movie stars on screen today. But that mystery comes with a price. By the end of this arm's-length study, Depp's Dillinger comes across as an interesting cat, but never a knowable man — he's a pop cultural phenomenon because the movie asserts he is, not because we believe it. We don't feel the bank robber's heartbeat the way we felt the agonies of Russell Crowe's whistle-blower at the end of The Insider —  or even grooved on the rhythms of cops Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs on Mann's stylish Miami Vice.

Dillinger the gun-waving daredevil is first seen finessing a prison break with his henchmen — one of the director's famously crisp, complex, assertive males-in-extremis transactions. Shooting in HD, Mann's frequent collaborator, cinematographer Dante Spinotti, conveys the sense that the flat location landscape signifies both limitless opportunity — and the impossibility of escape. Later, the wanted man dines, dances, and romances his lady love Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard, the French Oscar winner from La Vie en Rose, working studiously in newly acquired English) when not busy taking the (bank's) money and running. Throughout, Depp talks softly, making the most of those refined feminine features that once looked great in eyeliner as a pirate of the Caribbean, and now look swell framed by hats. He projects seriousness — and also telegraphs a hint of delight, as if Dillinger is tickled by what he's getting away with, hooked on the romance  of outlaw stardom.

Mann, meanwhile, suggests that every character in this very masculine story is similarly beholden to individual obsessions; his upscale gangster pic is intent on making intellectual connections, sacrificing depth of character in the process. Purvis, played with a buttoned-down agent's tight jaw by Christian Bale, is obsessed with an efficient, clean pursuit of justice, and as he and his team hunt Dillinger and his accomplices, the lawman is distressed to realize that purity of purpose isn't easy to maintain in the new, modern  Federal Bureau of Investigation. In contrast, FBI head J. Edgar Hoover, played with terrific bursts of ornate, egotistical menace by Billy Crudup, is shown to be hooked on — well, on something slightly rotten and certainly ruthless, something Purvis can't quite understand and eventually can't condone.

With its measured, team-produced screenplay by Mann, Ronan Bennett, and Ann Biderman, Public Enemies makes heavy business of the notion that Hoover ushered in  an era of ethically elastic law-enforcement procedures still recognizable today. Purvis is the existentially anxious 20th-century man caught in the middle of change he doesn't like. Dillinger represents the end of a desperate golden era when poor people cheered for robbers who gallantly called female hostages ''sister.'' But as a murderess and a jailhouse matron sing in the musical Chicago — another study of celebrity criminals — ''What ever happened to class?'' Throughout his own  heinous career, Bernard Madoff wore only gray suits. John Dillinger wouldn't have been caught dead in a costume so drab. Public Enemies re-creates clothes, but doesn't fully fashion the man who wore them. B-

A fierce custody battle is brewing over two of Michael Jackson's children, with their mother relaying word Thursday that she plans to fight for them in court, and the Jackson family signaling they will fight right back.

Debbie Rowe, the mother of Prince, 12, and Paris, 11, spoke to her former attorney Iris Finsilver, who says, "She is going to be pursuing custody of the children."

"Frankly, she won't have to fight for them," Finsilver tells PEOPLE. "She is the children's biological mother. She loves her children."

The kids, along with a third child, Prince Michael II (Blanket), 7, whose mother is unknown, are in the temporary court-ordered care of Jackson family matriarch Katherine Jackson, 79, whom the singer named as guardian in his 2002 will. (Diana Ross was also named, in the event that Katherine was no longer living.)

A source close to the Jackson family says they intend to seek permanent custody. "They will fight," says the source.

Rowe earlier made her position clear July 2 in an interview with a Los Angeles television station, saying, "I want my children."

"I am stepping up," she told a reporter for Los Angeles station NBC 4 in a 90-minute phone conversation. "I have to."

Rowe also said she'd be willing to take custody of Blanket to keep the three children together, and she may seek a restraining order to keep her former father-in-law, Joe Jackson, away from her children.

But who is he, really? In an exclusive interview, PEOPLE got to know the man behind the beard. His name is Jonathan Goldsmith, he's an actor and businessman originally from New York City, and while the Spanish accent is fake, he really is very interesting. Here are five things to know about him: He lives on a 47-foot boat in Marina Del Rey, Calif.: "It's like sitting in a beautiful French shop in England. It's like a fine furniture shop or antique shop," says Goldsmith. In his long career as a TV actor, he was often killed onscreen: "Electrocuted, shot, chopped, hung, machine-gunned and actually ground by somebody impersonating a nun," he says. "I was either killing people or being killed." In 1991, he started a marketing company and taught people how to achieve their dreams: He retired in 1998 from his multimillion-dollar business and returned to Hollywood. "When I was up making these pitches on the stages, I would practice my projection, imagining I was back on stage. And promising myself that one day I would return to that which I love. And I did." He was good friends with Fernando Lamas: Goldsmith cites the actor as the main influence for his Dos Equis character. Their passion for sailing bonded their friendship, and "I eventually scattered his ashes from my sailboat," he says. He does have a favorite tortilla: Unlike his character who doesn't choose between flour and corn, Goldsmith says, "I prefer flour over corn. I get that all the time."

Ne-Yo Is Prepped for New Orleans Concert – And the Gumbo

After spending the last four months in Prague where he was shooting the upcoming Tuskegee Airmen drama Red Tails alongside actors Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr., singer-songwriter Ne-Yo is ready to let loose and head down South. Hitting the stage at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on Friday, Ne-Yo tells PEOPLE he's been prepping his moves. "I'm a little rusty right now; I can admit that! ... But it will not show by the time ya'll see me at Essence! Don't worry!" he assures his fans. Also on the Essence bill: Beyoncé, John Legend and Maxwell. The star, who recently started rehearsals for his month-long European tour, added: "I've been off the radar while I was shooting [the film], but I'm getting my tour legs back. Performing music is in my blood. It's not like I’ll ever forget how to do it, but anything that you stop doing for a long enough period of time, you get a little rusty."

And once Ne-Yo wraps up his Big Easy performance, he'll be ready for a night on the town. "I love New Orleans – it's a party town! I grew up in in Las Vegas, so I know what it is!" he says with a laugh. But before hitting the scene, he plans to get his fill of some traditional New Orleans-style cuisine. "Gumbo is a must! "And if you look at Forks now, Stephenie has transformed this town into a Twilight tourism economy. It's crazy."

When he died a week ago, Michael Jackson was sitting on so much unreleased music, that fans could see more new material from him now that he's gone than in recent years.
"There are dozens and dozens of songs that did not end up on his albums," Tommy Mottola, who from 1998 to 2003 was chairman and CEO of Sony Music, which owns the distribution rights to Jackson's music, tells the Associated Press. "People will be hearing a lot of that unreleased material for the first time ever. There's just some genius and brilliance in there."
Included in those recordings are unused tracks from sessions Michael held for some of his best and most famous albums, as well as recent songs with Akon and will.i.am.
So exactly how much music are we talking? Tommy says the album releases to be made "could go on for years and years – even more than Elvis." Tommy went on to explain that for every album Michael made, several tracks were recorded that never made it onto the records.
The Jackson family hasn't revealed what will happen to Michael's song catalog and unreleased concert footage. A 2002 will of the late King of Pop was just filed yesterday, leaving everything to the family trust. It's also still unclear who exactly owns what rights to which recordings, between Sony and MJ himself.
Akon tells the AP they only completed one song, "Hold My Hand," which leaked last year, and that they talked on the phone all the time about ideas for finishing the album after the London tour.
He adds that he'll keep those bits of songs "locked up in the vault" until the Jacksons decide what to do with his legacy.
"It was all positive records – songs to uplift people, songs to make people think about the problems in life," Akon told the AP. "It was all about bringing people together."

It can't come as a surprise to anyone that the 2009 BET Awards will go down in history as being all about the legacy of one entertainer.
Guess which entertainer? Yes, you guessed correctly.

In what must have taken a monumental effort of teamwork, flexibility, and ingenuity—the annual awards program overhauled whatever original plans it had and hastily centered its entire focus on a tribute to the late Michael Jackson, who passed away unexpectedly last Thursday.
The telecast ran an extra 30 minutes in order to accommodate all of the tribute material.

The tone for the evening was set by a quote from Jackson's father, Joe, who called his son "the greatest star in the world" and told reporters outside the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, "I wish he could be here."

The pre-awards show, generally a fashion fest for stars to show off their latest designer finds, turned into a touching tribute of its own, with hosts Terrence J. and Rocsi asking everyone for their favorite Jackson moment or song.

The mega-stars of the evening seemed honored to take a backseat to Jackson's memory. Host Jamie Foxx opened the show with a request to "celebrate," providing the crowd with a shaky attempt at moonwalking and a re-enactment of Jackson's iconic "Beat It" choreography—complete with red jacket and glove.

Many of the performers of the evening incorporated homages to Jackson: Most notably, Ciara sang his "Heal The World," Best Male R&B winner Ne-Yo performed "Lady In My Life," and New Edition ran through a medley of Jackson 5 hits.
A chant of "Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson," ran through the auditorium as four-time nominee and Best New Artist winner Keri Hilson performed.

Winners of the awards thanked the late Jackson in their speeches, as well. Five-time-nominated Beyonce, who won for Best R&B Female Artist, called Jackson her "hero."
Legendary R&B band the O'Jays, whose classic music won the Lifetime Achievement award, even graciously shared their moment and paid their respects, as singer Eddie Levert touchingly noted how much he'd miss Jackson.

In a tremendous surprise, Jackson's sister Janet took the stage, making her first public appearance sincer her brother's death, and spoke on behalf of her entire family, thanking fans for their love and support. Following her appearance, Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx took the stage to perform the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There."

And in a new interview with the July 2009 issue of Men's Health magazine, the actor said he's finally reached the point in his career he'd always dreamed about.
"It's starting to happen. It's been 12 years. And I feel like I'm finally starting to get looks at some of the things I've always wanted to do," he told the mag. "I have a lot more flexibility I can show. That's what makes it fun. That's why I love this business. I don't want to do things just to prove to people 'Look how dark I can be.' It's about the story. It has to be a good story."

And though he's at the top of his acting game, he's also looking forward to starting a family with wife Fergie, whom he wed in January.
"I want to do good work, but having kids and a life outside of that is important. If you don't have anybody around who loves you, then what's it all for? You're just lonely in the end," he explained. "It's all about whatever enriches you. If you decide to go the domestic route and get married and all those things, it makes you a better actor."

And when the couple does decide to start a family, the world will know.
"We try to stay away from the places where the paparazzi hang out," he continued. "Still, they're outside the house every morning."
And though he might be starring in one of the summer's hottest movies and the object of the hungry paparazzi, the North Dakota native knows that nothing in Hollywood is ever a sure thing.

The Girl Next Door has become the blushing bride.
Kendra Wilkinson and her Philadelphia Eagle honey, Hank Baskett, tied the knot Saturday night at the Playboy Mansion, E! News has confirmed.
Security was tight as guests—including man of the house Hugh Hefner and Wilkinson's roommates turned bridesmaids, Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt—witnessed the duo exchange vows on the mansion's front lawn, next to the famed wishing well.
Baskett popped the question in November after a fairly short courtship, and the betrothed duo happily confirmed to E! News earlier this month that they're expecting their first child together in the fall.
"We don't officially know, but we keep saying he because we don't want to say it," Wilkinson told the Awful Truth this week. "The doctor kind of said he thinks it's a boy. But we don't know for sure yet."
And just because there's a baby on the way doesn't mean Kendra isn't a gal who still likes to have a little fun.
On June 18, her girlfriends treated her to a bridal shower at the Hollywood club Guys and Dolls, where they sipped cocktails (nonalcoholic for the mom-to-be), chowed down on gourmet comfort food and shared tips on love, sex and marriage.
All while clad in lingerie and licking frosting off each other, of course.
Baskett got to have his fun, too. While Wilkinson and her pals indulged in spa treatments on Wednesday, he and his buddies spent the day golfing. Then he and his future missus were guests of honor at a joint bachelor-bachelorette dinner party at MyHouse, a Hollywood bar furnished to look like a swanky private residence.

Jennifer Lopez is temporarily pulling the plug on her 6-year-old brand of high-end sportswear and accessories (aka about-town clothes to suit the diva within), WWD.com reports.

Sweetface's spring 2009 collection, which is currently in stores, will be the brand's last—until the rebuilding period is over, that is.
"In light of new company strategies, we have decided to put the Sweetface line on hiatus while we prepare to reintroduce the brand in the near future with new messaging points and an entirely new fashion point of view," the company said in a statement.

This bit of strategery takes the Wedding Planner star out of the fashion business in the U.S. Her JLO by Jennifer Lopez line is currently only sold internationally.

And that's exactly what Kendra Wilkinson got by holding her dream rehearsal dinner at the family-friendly restaurant-arcade in Glendale, Calif.

The theme of which was, "Keepin' It Real," according to Kendra executive producer Kevin Burns.

"She wants the wedding to be gorgeous and glamorous, a fairytale-princess wedding," he said. But she and her NFL-player fiancé Hank Baskett wanted the rehearsal to be about "who they are and where they come from."

It isn't just D&B's Million Dollar Midway that tells you what's important to Kendra, however.
"She was atually sitting at a Dave & Buster's when Hef called her when he invited her to come live at the mansion," Burns said.
Aw. Life-changing moment, indeed.
But don't worry, the new No. 1 man in Kendra's life got to have his fantasy cake and eat it, too—literally.
"He is a Transformers nut—so Hank got a Transformers cake," Burns said.

Michael Jackson has died, according to stunning reports from Los Angeles. The 50 year old suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles on Thursday and paramedics were called to the scene. Reports suggest the King of Pop was unconscious and not breathing. The medics had to perform CPR on the superstar as they rushed him to UCLA Medical Center. TMZ.com claims the Thriller singer has since died.

Update 18.07 EST: Jackson’s father Joe has confirmed the singer suffered a heart attack. More news to follow…

Update 18.26 EST: The LA Times is now confirming Jackson is dead. From The LA Times: Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times.

Update 19.33 EST: Jackson family friend, attorney Brian Oxman has called into CNN from the UCLA Medical Center. He’s refusing to confirm Jacko’s death but suggests all reports are true. He has been “hugging and crying” with Jackson’s siblings Randy, Jermaine and LaToya and awaiting father Joe Jackson, who is on his way from Las Vegas. Intriguingly Oxman suggests Jackson was on “extensive medication” at the time of his death and cold have been the victim of an Anna-Nicole Smith scenario. He tells CNN: “This family has been trying for months and months and months to take care of Michael Jackson. The people who have surrounded him have been enabling him. “If you think the case of Anna Nicole Smith was an abuse, that is nothing compared to what has taken place in the life of Michael Jackson.” “I do not know what medications he was taking, but the reports that we have received within the family are that they were extensive. “I don’t know the cause of all this. But this is something that I feared. This is a case of abuse of medications, unless the cause is something else.”

He Knew. Years ago Michael and I were having a deep conversation about life in general. I can't recall the exact subject matter but he may have been questioning me about the circumstances of my Fathers Death. At some point he paused, he stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, "I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did."I promptly tried to deter him from the idea, at which point he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded almost matter of fact as if to let me know, he knew what he knew and that was kind of that. 14 years later I am sitting here watching on the news an ambulance leaves the driveway of his home, the big gates, the crowds outside the gates, the coverage, the crowds outside the hospital, the Cause of death and what may have led up to it and the memory of this conversation hit me, as did the unstoppable tears. A predicted ending by him, by loved ones and by me, but what I didn't predict was how much it was going to hurt when it finally happened. The person I failed to help is being transferred right now to the LA County Coroners office for his Autopsy. All of my indifference and detachment that I worked so hard to achieve over the years has just gone into the bowels of hell and right now I am gutted. I am going to say now what I have never said before because I want the truth out there for once. Our relationship was not "a sham" as is being reported in the press. It was an unusual relationship yes, where two unusual people who did not live or know a "Normal life" found a connection, perhaps with some suspect timing on his part. Nonetheless, I do believe he loved me as much as he could love anyone and I loved him very much.I wanted to "save him" I wanted to save him from the inevitable which is what has just happened. His family and his loved ones also wanted to save him from this as well but didn't know how and this was 14 years ago. We all worried that this would be the outcome then. At that time, In trying to save him, I almost lost myself. He was an incredibly dynamic force and power that was not to be underestimated.When he used it for something good, It was the best and when he used it for something bad, It was really, REALLY bad. Mediocrity was not a concept that would even for a second enter Michael Jackson's being or actions. I became very ill and emotionally/ spiritually exhausted in my quest to save him from certain self-destructive behavior and from the awful vampires and leeches he would always manage to magnetize around him. I was in over my head while trying. I had my children to care for, I had to make a decision. The hardest decision I have ever had to make, which was to walk away and let his fate have him, even though I desperately loved him and tried to stop or reverse it somehow.After the Divorce, I spent a few years obsessing about him and what I could have done different, in regret. Then I spent some angry years at the whole situation. At some point, I truly became Indifferent, until now. As I sit here overwhelmed with sadness, reflection and confusion at what was my biggest failure to date, watching on the news almost play by play The exact Scenario I saw happen on August 16th, 1977 happening again right now with Michael (A sight I never wanted to see again) just as he predicted, I am truly, truly gutted. Any ill experience or words I have felt towards him in the past has just died inside of me along with him. He was an amazing person and I am lucky to have gotten as close to him as I did and to have had the many experiences and years that we had together. I desperately hope that he can be relieved from his pain, pressure and turmoil now.He deserves to be free from all of that and I hope he is in a better place or will be. I also hope that anyone else who feels they have failed to help him can be set free because he hopefully finally is. The World is in shock but somehow he knew exactly how his fate would be played out some day more than anyone else knew, and he was right. I really needed to say this right now, thanks for listening.
